The Creation of Wales Wednesdays 19.30 2018/19

This course will examine the complex history of the creation of Welsh identity from its origins in the aftermath of the Roman Empire to the rebellion of Owain Glyn Dwr in the early 15th century. We will explore the evolution of a distinctive Christian British identity in the Early Middle Ages; the emergence of Gwynedd under Rhodri the Great and Hywel Dda; the impact of the Vikings; the Norman incursions; the creation of the Welsh March; the legacy of Llewellyn the Great and Llewellyn ap Gruffudd, the 'Last Leader of Wales' and Owain Glyn Dwr, the last prince of Wales.
