This period saw the restoration of the Church of England and the granting of limited toleration to Nonconformists,. It witnessed the association of the House of Stewart with the Catholic cause and Hanover with Protestantism and the stirrings of the Enlightenment ideas that would help usher in the French Revolution. This course explores the changes that took place in this turbulent time from Charles II to George III.
