Scotland: a jigsaw in time Wednesdays 13.30 2018/19

The highly diverse geology of Scotland, has evolved over 3 billion years, where the rocks record evidence of changes in topography, climate and tectonic movement across the surface of the Earth in geological time. Scotland can be divided into five geologically distinct blocks, or terranes, which, although formed separately many miles apart, later became united when closure of ancient oceans brought continents crashing together, throwing up great mountain chains and binding the separate blocks forever in a jigsaw of time. Using illustrated talks, and practical sessions with maps and rock specimens, we shall discover the fascinating story of how Scotland's jigsaw came together.
